EVENT CALENDAR & NEWS SYSTEM 2005.10.25
Updating websites for universities or big corporations always involves collecting data from several different departments needing to post information on the top page. Updating these kinds of sites is a scary thought indeed but is integral to maintaining the utility and vitality of the site.
There are usually 2 main problems that arise when tackling the updating issue.
- A lack of cooperation and communication between the different departments of a company or university regarding updates to a unified portal site. Each of the departments generally have no problem updating their own information but often the system responsible for updating the portal doesn't integrate all the departments and doesn't manage the data properly.
- Overly complex structure of the portal site.
HMC took very careful consideration to this issue, when renewing the Chuo University site, to bring about a total solution to the problem.
When departmental personnel are entering information to be updated, they have the option to choose where in the portal they want to put that information. The webmaster was given a unified tool that helps him manage each department's updates. He can then edit priorities and make them appear online on the determined pages.
He can also use it to make an event calendar, covering all the information and sorting them by day, month or even by department. These features bring users the information they need quickly and easily.
